Should the drinking age be lowered from 21 to less ?

It is a fact that all 50 US states have set their minimum drinking age to 21 although exceptions do exist at all place.

So we should consider all the pros and cons regarding it.

PROS :

  1.  18 is the age of adulthood in the US and adults should have this basic right to make their own decisions like consuming alcohol.
  2. Allowing 18-20 years old to drink alcohol in a regulated environment would promote safe drinking activity because come on ! whom are we kidding ?? They are going to do this anyway and we should not let them fall in unsafe surroundings which can risk their life and health!
  3. Traffic fatalities are most common are most common among newly age drinkers, regardless of the MLDA AND THERE ARE FEWER DRUNK DRIVING FATALITIES IN MANY COUNTRIES WITH MLDA OF 18!
  4. MLDA 21 is largely ineffective as teenagers still consume alcohol according to NATIONAL CENTRE ON ADDICTION AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE.
CONS:

  1. Lowering MLDA 21 would be medically irresponsible.
  2. Lowering MLDA 21 to 18 will irresponsibly allow a greater segment of the population to drink alcohol in bars and nightclubs, which are not safe environments.
  3. MLDA 21 reduces traffic accidents and fatalities.
MLDA 21 should not be lowered to mirror European drinking age limits because the rate of drinking among US teenagers is lower than most European countries.
